The Hack The Margarita, our Sombra-inspired drink, was one of the first concepts we came up with: it’s simple and yet effective, perfect to represent this hero both lore- and design-wise. Here is the original recipe and the alcohol-free version, because we want anybody to be able to enjoy our creations! If you make it, don’t forget to snap a picture of it and share it with us on our Instagram profile. Also, don’t forget to check out the other recipes we shared here on amazing Omnic Post!

HACK THE MARGARITA

As you might have learned, our first and primary concern when creating a new Overwatch-inspired drink is to fully represent the character in his or her identity, personality, and design. So, we chose to represent Sombra’s nationality with the Margarita, probably the most famous Mexican cocktail. Of course, it’s made with tequila and lime juice, with a salt crusta to decorate the rim of the glass.
However, this classic version simply can’t handle her exuberant personality and doesn’t fully embody her character, so we came up with the idea of hacking it. Wouldn’t that make Sombra proud? The Talon chica seems to love violet, so we perfectly balanced the blue anise syrup, that adds a little sweetness, and the blueberry juice, so scented and flavored, to recreate her signature color. The glass itself is called margarita glass – it’s pretty obvious why we used it!
Enough with the talking, time to get working: here is the recipe for our Hack The Margarita, a super easy and super fun drink to add to your cocktail to-do list!

  • Lime juice (65ml / 4,5 tbsp)
  • Tequila (25ml / about 2 tbsp)
  • Blueberry juice (20ml / 1,5 tbsp)
  • Blue anise syrup (20ml / 1,5 tbsp)
  • Salt
  • Slice of lime
  • Lime juice (65ml / 4,5 tbsp)
  • Soda water (25ml / about 2 tbsp)
  • Blueberry juice (20ml / 1,5 tbsp)
  • Blue anise syrup (20ml / 1,5 tbsp)
  • Salt
  • For the alcohol-free version, just follow the recipe above, but use soda water instead of tequila!
First of all, put your glass in the freezer for about 10 minutes, because you want to serve your special Margarita very cold. Mix a little blueberry juice and blue anise syrup in a saucer, cut a round slice from a lime and let it rest in the mixture for a bit, until it gets stained. Also, moisten the rim of the glass with some blueberry juice and roll it gently in salt to get the purple decoration. Be careful not to make the crusta too thick – too much salt makes the cocktail undrinkable (and games unplayable, haha)!
Now that the preparation is done, it’s time to assemble the cocktail: grab your shaker and put some ice in it, together with the blueberry juice, the lime juice (you’ll need to squeeze about 5 or 6 limes, depending on their size), and the tequila. Shake it like crazy for about 6 or 7 seconds, as if you were emptying a full mag of Sombra’s machine pistol on a hacked enemy, then pour the cocktail in your glass using a strainer – you don’t want ice in your cocktail. Garnish with the lime slice, and you’re ready to hack the world with this incredibly refreshing drink!

Salud!
