The Kickoff Countdown: Dallas Fuel
Welcome to another edition of The Kickoff Countdown! We’re counting down the days to the inaugural matches of the Overwatch League by giving you an in-depth look on two teams every week. The first League event, a handful of exhibition matches, will take place at the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles from December 6th to 9th, and Stage 1 of the League will take place on January 10th, marking the official beginning of the season. In these posts, we’ll give you a rundown of the team members, some fun facts, and their schedule for the first leg of the League. Say hello to the Dallas Fuel!
Dallas, Texas is home to the Dallas Fuel, one of two League teams based in Texas. The team is co-owned by Team EnVyUs, known for their other professional gaming teams, and investment group Hersh Interactive, who has previously invested in eSports. The team’s management includes Mat “TazMo” Taylor as the general manager and Kyle “KyKy” Souder as the coach; Sounder previously played for Cloud9 before he became a coach for EnVyUs.
Meet the Players
The Fuel has nine main members of various nationalities, including some big-name streamers like Seagull and xQc.
Timo “Taimou” Kettunen
Finnish player Taimou plays primarily DPS. He is particularly known for his bold Widowmaker and McCree play, though he has also been known to play Roadhog. He was previously a member of EnVyUs, as well as the FMVP of Season 1 of Overwatch APEX.
Hyeon “EFFECT” Hwang
South Korean player EFFECT has previously played for several teams, including Meta Bellum, EnVyUs, and the North American Overwatch Contenders team. He commonly plays Tracer and Doomfist.
Félix “xQc” Lengyel
Known for his popular Twitch streams, Canadian player xQc will be filling the tank role for the Fuel. His past teams include Denial eSports and Arc 6 as well as the Canadian national team during the 2017 Overwatch World Cup, where he won the T-Mobile MVP award. He mostly plays Winston, Reinhardt, and Orisa.
Christian “cocco” Jonsson
Swedish player cocco is also a tank for the Fuel, specializing in Reinhardt, Winston, and Zarya. He previously played for EnVyUs as well as the Swedish national team during the 2016 World Cup.
Sebastian “chipshajen” Widlund
Hailing from Sweden, chipshajen has twice played for the Swedish national team as well as EnVyUs. Before playing Overwatch, he was a professional player of both DotA 2 and Bloodline Champions. He mostly plays Ana and Zenyatta, but is known to occasionally try Sombra.
Jonathan “HarryHook” Rua
A support/flex player, HarryHook comes to the Fuel from Spain. He mainly plays Lucio, but is also quite capable with Soldier: 76 and McCree. He has experience with EnVyUs as well as the Spanish national team.
Scott “Custa” Kennedy
Custa previously played for several teams, including Arc 6 and Fnatic, before joining the Fuel. He comes from Australia and specializes in Zenyatta, Ana, and Sombra.
Brandon “Seagull” Larned
Famous for his Twitch streams, Seagull is the only American player on the Fuel. Before playing Overwatch, he was a top player in the Half-Life 2 multiplayer as well as a professional Team Fortress 2 player. He swaps freely between Pharah, Genji, and Hanzo.
Pongphop “Mickie” Rattanasangchod
Mickie comes from Thailand. He was previously a competitive player of Point Blank, an FPS popular in South Korea. A member of EnVyUs and the Thai national team, he specializes in D.Va and Zarya.

The Dallas Fuel keeps fans posted about their progress on their Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages; recently, they made a video introducing Seagull. The Fuel is part of the League’s Pacific Division, putting them in the same category as both of Los Angeles’ teams as well as the Shanghai Dragons and the Seoul Dynasty, among others. Their first match will be close to home: they’ll face off against the Houston Outlaws during the League’s preseason exhibition matches. You can find the full schedule of matches here.
